CYCLING

Yesterday the first race for the cup presented by Mr. J. Townley was run, the course being to Makaraka and back. There were 14 starters. The road was in fairly good order, but between the starting point and To Hapara it was very rough. Messrs. H. Anderson and Hodson acted as umpires at tlio turning point. Mr. Townley acted as judge, and Mr. TV. Howaril. in conjunction with Mr. R. H. Clark, acted as starter and liaudicapper. Tho race -resulted: I/. Wilkinson (22min 46sec), 1; A. Wilkinson (22min 50scc), 2; H. Davis (23min lSsec), 3. The times quoted were the three fastest. Tho winner rode a Fiver machine, built by Air. H. Anderson. The next race for the cup takes place towards the end of January next.
