ROWING.
(By "Single Scull.") The crews for tile Buscke Trial Fours are doing grind >,vork. Show, week, and the influenza lias retarded the training operations a little. The new bleed is shaping very w L *.' lie' e is a general tendency with til! strokes to rush their slides forward. The fast work should be in the “drive” and getting tho hands away. Perhaps a little concerning the crews may not be out of place at present. Cuniming's crew are proverbially dark horses, but have been seen in the "we sms hours'” by “your humble” doing good work. Stroke is setting a good style, but swings a little too far back. No. 2 should use liis body. No. 3 wants to get bis hands away smarter, and come slower up on his slide. Smith is handicapped by having
tivo new men, but has'good material to work on. Does liis slide work too fast. No. 3 shaping well'for a new man. Cots a drive off liis legs. No. 2 bends his arms too much, and slices badly. Bow wants to sit up and swing back, not fall back. Bright has taken Coleman’s place as stroke, with Frasor as three, and is looking all over a winner atf present, judging by the catch. No. 3 bullocks too much. Bow wants to put a little more body swing in. Sit up boys; and keep the catch going! Bayly’s crew are plodding along No. 2 wants to use his body ana catch with his shoulders. This crow lacks a drive. Puflett has a nuegety crew. Sharland lias replaced Me.Gonigal. N 0.3 should sit up and pull in Iris chest. No. 2 is 'shaping very well and has studied the theory. Swinnertoii bullocks tho finish of liis stroke too much. The stroke ■should be driven through the water. No 2 wants to sit and come furthr forward. Catches late. Bow wants to keep elbows in and swing straight ip and down in boat. Hamilton is going well. Has tho makings of a good man in No. 3 'veep stiff arm in catch! No. 2is only using half his slide and not much >f his body. Let your body do tho vork! Sit up, bow, and hold your dide! This crew will take a lot if beating if stroke catches smarter, and drives. Giinlinson’s crew have been 'rather appropriately called th 0 “feaih•r weight crew.” Stroke wants to nnno further forward, and is inclinid to chop. No. 2 is improving-every ow. Bow wants to sit up. Hold rour slides and drivo together! ,Dont look out of boat. I notice the captain is taking an interest in the young oarsmen. Crews ippear to be benefiting by his advice. Several good oarsmen are on tho uirds for G. R. C.. and they intend to m strongly represented at die Championship Regretta. Sculling is booming in l oth sheds, thanks to Webb. The public may look forward to anno good raging next week, as b./li heels will bo racing off heats on tho Waimata river. A number of visiting oarsmen have been seen out in both sheds, and the local sheds are not lacking in hospitality. The guiding posts are stumbling blocks to scullers. One of our promising “Webbs” was seen having furious spins but did not have time to complete distance through strikingone.
A very timid though energetic new member was observed having slow work on the plough the other evening. Keep to it “young ’uni” The captain of the G. R. C., Mr. D. E. Dustin, leaves oii Sunday for South, and will be absent for a fortlight, during which time the deputycaptain, Mr. Hamilton, will be in charge of the shed.
