A seven-roonied house and outbuildings m Queen street owned and occupied by Sydney Drake, builder, was completely destroyed by fire about 10.10 to-night, Mr. Drake was the only person in the house at the time and was sitting before the fire in.the dining room and dozed off to sleep, and v-oke up a few minutes later to tmd the room filled with suffocating smoke, and he had to rush out of the house. Almost the next moment tlio budding was enveloped in flames, and as tile house was on a hill at a verv high altitude all the water that tho fire brigade could get to play on tile burning building was nothing more than a trickle. The house was insured in the Victoria office for, it is sail!, £350, anil is valued at £9OO being practically a now building.
