CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

A meeting of tho Charitablo Aid Board was hold last evening, prior to tho Borough Council meeting. The Hospital Trustees submitted the names of tho successful tenderers for supplies to tho Hospital and to tho Old Men’s Homo, for tho ensuing year commencing October Ist. Mr. H. J. Finn wrote: —“Tho Charitablo Aid Board, about two years ago, paid tho sum of £ll 2s towards the maintenance, etc., of a young woman—owing to tho young man responsible having deomed it wiso to suddenly disappear. Through tho ablo assistance of Sergeant AVilliams, tho place of residence of the deserter was recently discovered, and the result has been that I have recovered from him the amount for which I .enclose my cheque. lam instructed not to mention any names.”—Acknowledged with thanks. It was reported that in consequence of a second marriage, tho Board would be relieved of certain maintenance. The mother was now in a better position, and the children would be cared for by the step-father. Tho Auckland Hospital Board made a claim for the maintenance of a latient' named John Robertson who lad been admitted to the Auckland Hospital. He was a resident of Port Awanui, where his parents reside.— Referred to the AA’aiapu Board. Mr. R. C. Vigis, custodian of tho Old Men’s Home, reported: “Nuinbor of initiates remaining at last meeting 13, admitted since 1, number on present dato 14. The following gifts are acknowledged with thanks-. Messrs J. Spence and G. Davis, books; Sergt. Williams, papers; Messrs Thomas and Pizzey, cauliflowers; ladies committee of Hospital social, cakes, etc.”—Received. ...Sergeant AVilliams submitted a claim for cab hire, in connection with j the removal of a patient from the scene of a fire at Kaiti to tho Hospital. Tho patient, James Balfo, succumbed to his injuries, and as tho deceased had no means, tho Board was requested to pay tho item.— Claim passed.
