NORTH ISLAND TRUNK RAILWAY
! Press Association. I AUCKLAND, yesterday. I Mr Blow, Undor-Secretary for-Pub-i lie Works, has returned to Auckland after visiting the-coiistruetoii works on tho North Island Trunk railway. It: is stated the distance, from the railhead at liaurimu to that at Rangitaiia in only 28 miles. Tho extension to Olnikuni! will lie started almost immediately. In three months the gap between the rails will he reduced to 24 miles. About September or October a start will lie made with rail-laying on the Spiral, and the line will then lie carried right on to Makatote viaduct, which Mi-. Blow estimates will he finished by Christmas, ieaving a gap of 12 miles. Tho contractors for this viaduct are also constructing the Mangonuiteao bridge, and hope to finish both works by Doeeniber or January. If so the railhead will he taken over these viaducts to Horopito, the distance loft to be completed then being only four miles. He says it is reasonable to -oppose that line will lie finished by the end of .1908, when through trains will be running. The distance will he 426 miles, the mail train doing the journey in 20 hours.
