EASTER SERVICES
There was nil Easter Festival at Holy Trinity Church. The special Easter day services, held ill tho above Church oil Sunday, were crowned with comploto success, iho day began with a celebration of the Holy Eucharist at 7 a.m., and from that hour till Into in tho evening tlio staff of clergy had few spare moments. Tho vicar delivered ail faster address at the 11 o’clock choral service, to a very large congregation, based on tho words, “Now is Christ risen from tho dead, and become the first fruits of them that slept. Llio speaker drew a picture of tho whole civilized world waking up gradually that day to keep the grand Jtaster festival. Tho Church was filled by a great gathering oi children and adults in the afternoon. The vicar spoke to the young people. The sorvice was strikingly bright and inspiring. Tho Church was packed to tlio doors in tho evening, extra seats being placed in every possible part of the building. Tho Rev. F. AA. C’hattorton spoke on the teaching of Eastertide. A larpio choir sang the " beautiful music at tho services, and also gavo the find ‘‘Hallelujah chorus” from the Messiah. The. Church was extensively decorated by a small army of parishioners, and presented a strikingly attractive appearanco; a large rood screen; had been erected at tlie chancel, and this was picked out with white pampas plumes and greenery and pampas grass and bamboo were placed on the pillars and pews throughout tlio Church; The alter was most beautifully done in white heather, dahlias, and greenery. Services were also held at Kaiti and Mangapapa schools at 7 p.m. At the former place there was a packed congregation, and the room had been prettily decorated by some of the ladies. At the Catholic Church on Good Friday morning a Mass of the PreSanotified was held. In the evening the Rov. Father Dignan, of Ormond, conducted the service, aud preached on the Passion to a crowded church. On Sunday all of the services were well attended. The altar was beautifully decorated by the Children of Mary, and looked especially well at the evening service, when all the candles were lighted. The Rev. Father Lane preached an eloquent sermon on the Resurrection. The choir, under the eonduetorship of Mr. C. Palairet, rendered music appropriate to the occasion. The Salvation Army held a special service on Easter Sunday morning, when a Bible address was given by Mr. Morgan. Mrs. Dickens addressed tho meeting in tho afternoon, and the evening service was conducted by Adjutant Dickens and Treasurer Cobb, of Palmerston. The evening service was well attended, and tho Eastor'-appeal was well responded to. A special open-air meeting was hold last night. Easter was observed at St. Andrew’s Church on Sunday by sermons at 11 .-will, and 7 p.m.'by the Revv Win. Grant, on Easter subjects. .V special Easter service was also held at-3 p.m. - Mr. Lomas, of Wellington, was the preacher at the morning service at the Wesley Church, and in the evening Mr. Palk preached on the subject. “The last charge of a Great General.”
