NURSING SCHEME.
A DOCTOR’S GENEROUS WORK (Per Freai Association.) Duuedin, last night. At the annual meeting of the Dunedin centre of the St. John Ambulance Association, while the work of the district nurse was being discussed, Dr Barnett s id the work of district nurse
was mainly with the old and helpless, but what about infants who were on the threshhold of life, who were practically poisoned by improper feeding ? He warmly eidogised Hr Xruby King’s timely efforts in this direction. With whole-hearted enthusiasm, l)r King was at present, out of his own pocket, paying a nurse to go round among the people of the district, especially the poor, to show the proper method lof feeding infants. He was not only ! paying the nurse, but was providing requisites necessary. That was generous on Dr .King’s part, but it should not be allowed to continue, and Hr Barnett advocated that tho Association should take over the nurse. He thought the Premier would support such a scheme by subsidy. Dr Will said a scheme such as was suggested had been drawn up, and as a result of correspondence with the Premier and Hr King, what was proposed was to appoint three nurses, and he asked for a subsidy of 2-ls in the £ on money subscribed, He hoped to have an answer from Mr Seddon on his return from Australia.
