Wellington, last night. At tho Supremo Court this morning Thomas Henry Goodger was found guilty of manslaughter, and sentenced to two and a half years. The Chief Justice said he did not think the prisoner intended to kill Prestidgo, who he stabbed with a pocket knife in a street quarrel, and spoke strongly against the drinking habit. Francis Gordon Waddeli was found guilty of assault on S. Gilmer, and sentenced to lb months’ imprisonment.

Wostport, last night. Westport borough population is 3G45, as compaivd with 2922 when tho last census was taken. There are 1731 females and 1911 males.

Sooner or later it will be recognised that the present insane craze for ball games of every description is eating away the efficiency of the nation. The rifle ball is the only kind which would be of service, and is therefore the only one neglected.—London Globe.
