HIS MAJESTY'S IHEATRE.

ANDREW BLVCK ON TOUR.

Mr Androw Black’s visit to Australia and Now Zealand while still at tho height if h s famo and popularity is really duo to a vary sad o'roumstanoo, namely, the death of his wife. Mrs Black wa3 not only

his wife and friend, but his right hand, for she arranged all bis engagements and managed all his correspondence. During hor illness everything wns neglected, and piles of lettors accumulated. When death canto Mr Black was overwhelmed, and felt ho could nnt take up tho burden of tho usual round at once. His dootors ordered rest and change, and Mr Black, who had long wished to come to Australia, thought

it would bo wiso to arrange to come now. The long voyage would give him rest and ehsngo, and at tho end of his journey ho would bo among fresh faces and ecenes. Otherwise, so overwhelmed is he with engagements usually that it seemed a p oMem when ho would bo able to spare time for such a tour. It is a rnthoc rema kablo fact, aud a sad coincidence, that

i w j .s duo to a similar cause that Mr Edward L'oyd visited Australia. Ho hod lost his wifo just before ho loft England, aud was travelling by doctor’s orders to try and partially recover from his grief. Howover, there was one big diilereuoe — Edward Lloyd was a much older man, and had made up his rniud and had announced his intention of finally retiring from public life. Mr Black is still in robust middle life, for ho is only 46 years old. The tour is under the direction of Messrs J. and N. Tait, whiob ensures the eoneorts being of a high class and at the same time popular naturo. Bos: plans for both concerts, which tako plaoa on Monday and I Tuesday oveuings, 21st and 22ad May, at His Majesty’s Theatre, will open at I Miller’s on Thursday at 10 a in.
