Westport, lust night. Oo Saturday a girl aged about 18 years, daughter of Mr Herring, of Totara, midway between Capo Foulwind and Charleston, was shot dead at her father’d residence. The father proceeded to work in tbe morning, leaving the children at home, Bnd on his roturn in the afternoon at 4 o'olock found tbe girl lyiDg dead in the’ passage, hep face being badly ma-ked bv a bullet., Two lads ypungev than deceased were missing, and a search being made indicated that they bad gone in tbe direction of tbe river, or possibly into the bush. They had not returned yesterday. It is surmised that the lads had been playing with the gun, and that it had accidentally gone off and shot their sister, and that bpipg frightened with what had occurred they'fa t?,d disappeared into the bush,
