ASSERTIONS AND DENIALS.

Before tbe Meikle Commission to-day, James Fleming, farms', at Rskahopu, stated he had examined the fences between the properties of Meikle and the oompany on November 12, 1887, and found them ia good order. There was nothing in particular to tempt sheep either on one side of the fences or the other. William Stuart, who sucoeeded T,oup iu 1887 as manager of Islay station, stated thero was farly good feed for sheep on the company’s pre-emptive rights. He did not thick there was any thing on Meiklo’s land to tompt sheep to stray f.om ofi the company’s land. Ia tbe afternoon the prinoipal witness was Mrs Meikle, wife of the supp mint She remembered the 17th October, 1887, as it was oo that day her son Arthur was believed to bo dying of p'eurißy. She heard Lambert say on several occasions he was to get 450 for putting sheepskins in her husband’s barn or smithy. After her hußbaudis imprispmneot 9he saw Troup, and told h'li} she belieyod he had dooumeDts that would clear her husband. He replied, “ Yes, but it would put others in gaol.” Witness offered him 4100 for the documents. Robert Troup, re-called, said he told Mrs Mtiklo he had no documents suoh as she referred to. He had never told her that if he got her husband out of it it would put others in. The sitting hero is expected to oonolude to-morrow, when Lambert will bo examined.
