SALE AT: MATAWIIERO YARDS,

There wijis a luge 'uttendanoe ajb the MaSawhero saleyards yesterday, when the ooiabiped stc.ck sales were held, yarding of aheep was a heavy one, ahd fair prices were realised, but the demand for cattle was very poor. Messrs Williams and Kittle roport;

The yarding yesterday was a heavy one, exceeding 10,000 she p and 200 head of cat le. Toe offer'ng of sheep was for the most part of excellent quality, and produoed splenlid competi-.ioa for fit and forward wethers, which sold up to 17s 6d for we'l filled linee. Stores were well competed for, and brought up to 14s and 15#. Ewes wero represented by some fist class lines, but the drmand in th : s olass showed a considerable falling rff, and although wo sold a Dice line of two-tooth ewes at 14s, the demand for older sheep was not at all keen, and prices were a shilling or two shillings lower than during the Match offmog. A very large portion of the entry oonsistod of hoggets, a numbor of whioh were of excellent quality, but the demand for this o’ass was very pooc indeed, and although a good many of the lines were sold afterwards at a consider able reduction, the bulk was pasg)d under the hammer. Good hoggets brought from 8a to 9s 91, whilst lambs of poor quality sold from 3s to sa. Toe , demand for sbeep from turnip oouotry was conspicuous by its absence, it beiog ovident that tbe oountry was not quite ready yot, and we hope that in another month there miy be a stronger demand for this purpose. It was late bofore the oittle were reached, qrjd vejry few sales wore made, prices showing little improvement ovor provioua sales.

Messrs Dalgely and 00. rpport: Tae yarding of sheep was a very heavy one, somewhat exceeding tbe demand. There was a good c all for fat sheep, but wethers and lambs went back nearly a shilling a head Good ewes mad 9up to 13), and lambs from 3s to 4s. Thero was a good yarding of oattle and a greatly improved dem ind for good steers. We Bold bullocks up to 46 17a GJ, lighter weights making from £5 to £6 ss; 2£-year-old heifers sold at 42 15s. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co report that there was a la r ge attendance at yesterday’s sale, but bidding wat not up to the usual standard, and many of the lines were passod. Several lots of lambs and fat wethers were sold at satisfactory prices, but the prices for sheep genera'ly wore disappointing. Thero was a Blightly improved tone in the oattle market.
