Auckland, list night. The ratepayers of Auckland voted to-day on loan proposals amounting to £147,000. The following are loans submitted : £BOOO for completion of refuse destructor, £2OOO for the erection of additional buildings in Victoria Park, £BO,OOO for the purpose of acquiring the necessary additional land for the site of the proposed Town Hall in Queen and Grey streets, and for the erection and equipment of the building, £30,000 for the erection of a traffic bridge across Cemetery gully, £25,000 for the installation of an electric power plant. The interest in case of each loan in the event of its being carried is not to exceed 4] per cent. All proposals were carried. Grey Lynn rejected the proposal for joining greater Auckland by 60 votes.

At the Supreme Court to-day it was decided to postpone tho new trial of John Ross, charged with keeping a gaming house, until next sessions. The charge against Maurice Heslip of assisting in keeping a common gaming house, to wit the room Ross was alleged to have kept for the purpose, was also adjourned. At the Supreme Court to-day John Kennedy, au elderly man of good character hitherto, was fined £25 for assaulting another man. The judge said the assault had evidently been committed in a moment of passion.

Dunedin, la>t night. Four per cent, is no longer tempting to investors. The City Council opened tenders to-night for £30,000 for the Waipori electric works loan, when it was found that only £LSOO had been tendered for. At a conference between the executives of the School Committees Association and tho local branch of the Education Institute a committee was sot up to prepare a circular sotting forth the claims of teachers for an increase of annuities under the Teachers’ Superannuation Act, so as to provide a reasonable allowance for back service. Efforts are to be made to secure the co-operation of education bodies in other parts of the colony.
