RACECOURSE ACCIDENT
3 A JOCKEY -KILLED. . Sydney, July 4. i Boseborry Park rocccourso. was the scene of a shocking accident yesterday afternoon. Thomas William Adams, 20 years of age, a jockey, was killed, while another jockey, named William McMahon, aged 18. years, was seriously injured. The accident occurred on the 14.1 Handicap. Owing to the large number of starters the management decided that the race should be run in two divisions. Six ponies started in the first heat, and of these Lady Wilton and Luleon were ridden by Adams and McMahon respectively. 'Everything went wall until the bend leading to the straight was reached. There a collision occurred, with the result that Adams and McMahon, together with their mounts, were thrown heavily to the ground. When picked up both jockeys were in an unconscious condition. They were removed to St Vincent’s Hospital in the racecourse ambulance. On arrival Adams was dead, his head having been severely injured by the fall. McMahon was admitted for treatment, suffering from concussion of the brain and a fracture of , L tbc right shoulder.
