WELLINGTON RACES
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The weather was fine for the concluding day’s racing. The attendance was fairly good and the speculation well sustained, 1123,434 going through the totalisator, as against JE27,83l last year, when there was three days’ racing. The results were:— January Handicap.—Petrovna 1, Somerled 2, Hinekoa 3. All started but Hohora and General Symons. Won easily by a longth. Time 1.28 4-5, divs. JEI 8s 6dand £‘i 17s 6d.
Fitzherbert Handicap. Auratus 1, Gladsomo 2, Starshoot 3. Waitarere also ran. Won easily by two lengths. Time 1.17, div. £4 15s. Racing Club Handicap. Pallas 1, Cannie Chiel 2, Canteen 3. All started. Pallas jumped away with the lead and was never caught, winning somewhat easily by two longths. Time 2.81-5, divs. £6 10s 6d and £1 3s. The stewards enquired into Pallas’ running on Thursday, and considered the explanation satisfactory. Poneko Hack Handicap.—Catherine Gordon 1, Shackle 2, Narcotic 3. Scratched: Lolab and Hatley. Won easily by two lengths. Time 1.29 2-5, divs. £6 2s and £3 6s. A protest against the first and second horses for inconsistency was dismissed.
Wellesley Stakes. —Treadmill 1, King Log 2, Regiment 3. Only starters. Won after a good finish by a nose. Time 49 2-5, div. £4 10s.
Zealandia Plato.—Advance 1, Cannie Chiel 2. Only starters. Won easily by two lengths. Time 2.8, div. £1 2s. Metropolitan Handicap.—Hohoro 1, Somerled 2, Ayrdale 3. Scratched: Petrovna. Won by a length. Time 1.15 3-5, divs. £1 19s and £1 5s 6d. Poncarrow Hack Handicap.—Waikakaho 1, Aldinga 2, Good Intent 3. Scratched: Romany Lass, Kowhete, Betsy, Ringman, Dodona, and Wind. Won by two lengths. Time 1.16 3-5, divs. £23 11s and £2 1.
WAIBOA WEIGHTS. The following weights for the first day’s races of the Wairoa County Racing Club have been declared; — County Stakes: Oracle 8.12, Mongonui 8.7, Inspan 8.0, Boseplot 7.12, Craftsman 7.6, Waimoe 6.12. First Hurdles: Boseplot 10.7, Abergeldie 10.4, Vathek 9.4, Master Model 9.0, Benediction 9.0. Awatori Stakes: Mongonui 9.5, Oracle 9.0, Inspan 8.4, Boseplot 8.2, Craftsman 7.10, Lifeboat 6.10, Hinekuri, Porangi, and Skotch 6.7. District Handicap : Pohui and Ivohupapa 9.0, Skotch and Vanity 8.12, Purangi aDd Hinekuri 8.10, Puriro, Cadcau, and Whanga 8.7.
