NAVAL TRAINING SHIPS.
PROPOSAL TO ESTABLISH IN COLONIAL PORTS,
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, last night, A deputation of the Royal Naval and Royal Marine Association, with Admiral Beaumont, on board the Sierra, discussed the need of the establishment in the ■ principal colonial ports of naval training ships, so that the nucleus of a marine population might he formed. The Admiral said he cordially agreed with the proposal, and would bring the subject before the proper authorities on his arrival in England. The admittance of colonial youths into the navy, as agreed upon at the recent conference of Colonial Premiers, would do something to remove the bar which the stringent merchant shipping laws of this colony presented to the employment of youths on the sea, but lie realised that the establishment of training ships might lie of great additional service. He pointed out that the Pyladcs, now on this station, might answer the purpose temporarily, pending the preparation ofsuitable vessels, which might otherwise cause considerable delay,
