MR CHAMBERLAIN’S TOUR.
ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Received 1 a.m,, Jan. 24. Capetown, Jan. 23. Accompanied by Lord Milnor, Sir A. Lawiey, Goneral Lyttelton, General Baden-Powell and their staff, Mr Chamberlain was welcomed to Krugersdorp, and presented with an address signed by ail classes. Mr Chamboriain, in returning thanks, said that the losses on both sides had been aggravated by the prolongation of the war when tbo issue was beyond doubt. A now nation was arising out of the ashes of tho old. Ho hoped that those great in war would prove great in peace. Tho two nations now understood each other, and their worst enemy would bo the man who attempted to divide them. As a practical form of showing sympathy he suggested the repair of the Boer memorial at Paardekraal, and to make it a joint tribute to the fallen on both sides. Subsequently he journeyed to Potchefstroom, where he was given a splendid reception. Generals Andreas, Cronje, and many Dutch were amongst those who welcomed him. Mr Chamberlain, responding to the addresses, said that he was grateful for the welcome to the old Transvaal capital. The people would find they have a just and sympathetic Government, and prosperity would follow the Union,
The cruiser Good Hope has sailed fer the Mediterranean.
Mr Chamberlain -will sail by the liner Norman in February 25th.
