LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. In the Legislative Council the Public Health Bill and Workers’ Compensation for Accidents Bill passed the final stages. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.40. The House spent the afternoon in a general discussion on the Appropriation Bill, several members taking the opportunity of entering a final protest on various subjects. THE CLOSING HOURS. AN EXCHANGE OF COMPLIMENTS THE SPEAKER'S PRAISE OF ACTING-PREMIER. The Legislative Council met to-night, and passed tbo Appropriation Bill, and then finally adjourned. The House resumed at 7.30. In replying on the motion for the third reading of the Appropriation Bill, Sir J. Ward said that the revenue in all public departments continued buoyant, and there was no justification for the gloomy foreboding of the Opposition. The Customs revenue for September showed an increase of £22,000 as compared with the corresponding month of last year. The Bill passe 1 the final stages, and at 10.5 it was announced that the Bill had received the Governor’s assent. Sir Joseph Ward, on hehalf of members, paid a tribute to Sir Maurico O’Rorke for the impartial way in which he had carried out the duties of Speaker, and Sir Maurice O’Rorke, in acknowledging the compliment, remarked that he had never seen the business go more smoothly than in the session just closing. Sir Joseph Ward also, on behalf of tho members, wished every success and prosperity to the retiring mombers, Messrs Hutcheson, Pirani, and Carncross. The House finally rose at 10.35.
