It is easy to suggest reasons for the antagonistic attitude that the Boer Generals have now taken up. In the first place, all thoughtful men musthave felt that the hysterical enthusiasm of the mob over the arrival of the Generate in England was as discreditable in its way as the exuberant jingoism of Mafe.kiug Day. Miss I-lob-house and Dr. Clark and Die English pro-Boers have Hen • able to give Botha and his companions what would seem to be convincing, proof of their contention that' tho Boers] had the sympathies of the English nation with them. H is possible that, those who derided Mr Seddon’s reasonable and well-timed warnings may yet liavo caii.se to regret the superficiality ot their own judgment—Auckland Star.
