Charges against Barcovich, hotelkeeper of exposing liquor for salo after hours were dismissed. The Magistrate complimented the police on their vigilance. Nelson, last night. Tho Nelson College Old Boys’ Association held a social gathoring last night. Tho Chairman suggested that old boys all ovor the colony be enrolled as members, and when the Association had a credit balance it should endow Nelson Collego with a scholarship. It was further suggested that old college boys capable should receive appointment to the College Board of Governors.

Oamaru, last night. Mrs Shields, of Port Chalmers, who was found in an unconscious state in a carriage of the express train yestorday afternoon, and was removed to tho hospital, died at 10 o’clock last night without regaining consciousness. She had been in bad health for some three months, and was proceeding to Hinds, in Canterbury, accompanied by her two small children, for a change. Dunedin, last night. At a meeting of the El Dorado Dredging Company last evening, discussion was very heated as to tho conduct of the directors in permitting the secretary, Branigan, after knowing he had defrauded the company of £6OO, to leave the country. Branigan is now in Melbourne. The directors were instructed to tako steps to bring him back.

A fire in a house owned by Sydney Goldsmith, and occupied by L. Tuckey, employed on the Daily Times staff, broke out last night during the fire brigade social. The brigade were promptly on tho scene. The house was insured in the Standard for £SOO. Damage to the extent of £l5O was done. The furniture was insured in tho Phcenix for £250, and its damage has not been ascertained.
