ALLEGED MANSLAUGHTER.
THE DRAKE CASE,
(By Telegraph—Press Association. (By Telephone from Napier.) Wellington, last night. Tho Drake manslaughter enso is Btill before tho Court. The medical evidence showed that tho body of the child was terribly bruised and discolored. Tho other evidence to-day was called to prove that Blrs Drake did not treat tho deceased child as well as others of her children.

SOME REMARKABLE EVIDENCE,
(Per Press Association).Wellington, last night,
Dr Clay, in further evidence, said that ho could corno to no other conclusion than that tho child had died from shock. Mrs Jenkins, of Elton, sistor-in-law to accused, stated that whilst on a visit to Drako’s sho had noticed that tho child did not receive proper attention, and was much neglected. Blrs Drako had exprossod hor dislike for docoascd. Sarah Woddy, a Blaori, who had boon in tho servico of tho Drakes' when do ceasod was botwoon two or three years of age, gave ovidenco to tho offoct that tho child had nover boon treated liko tho othor members of tho family, although it was woll fed and clothed. Somotimes Mrs Drako would tio tho little girl to the fonco at tho back door with a tether ropo round tho child’s waist. Sho would tio hor up in this manuor after tho child had had breakfast and a bath, aud loavo hor thore until dinner. Tho child would then bo released, and aftor having boon giveu dinner would bo again tied up for tho afternoon. This was never dono on fine days. On wet days tho child would be put into tho nursery by herself and loft thcro for tho day. Mrs Drako told witness that sho tied tho child up to keep it away from tho rivor. Witness, continuing, said that as thcro was a fino wiro notting fence along tho rivor bank tho child could not get to tho river. Tho child was treated in this way all tho time that witness was at Drako’s.
Othor witnesses wero partly oxauiined, and tho case for tho prosecution had not closed whon the Court adjourned for tho day.
