At the Chamber of Commerce, President Wood said, in reference to ocean liners making Lyttelton the first port of call, a * question which had been raised at the •ouarterly meetings, that a deputation had since waited on the shipping companies. The companies asked for the wishes to be put in writing, which was done. lhe companies replied that the matter would be referred to the London offices, urging that the wishes of the consignees be met, •if possible.
