RETURNED TROOPERS.

[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, last night. Twenty-two troopers of the Fourth Fifth, and Sixth Contingents, uuder the command of Captain Drury, together with Sister Cross (Dunedin), of tho nursing staff, returned from South Africa via Sydney by the Elingamito. They are: Captain Drury, Wellington, Seventh Contingent; Sergeant Riddell, Oamaru, Seventh; Sergeant Beardmore, Nelson, Sixth ; Farrier-Sergeant Shaw, Wellington, Sixth; Privates Cameron, Wellington, Sixth ; Mazzolini, Auckland, Sixth ; Meln-tcns, Rangiora, Sixth ; Monk, Dunedin, Sixth ; Watson, Christchurch, Sixth ; Hewit, Wellington, Sixth; Hodson, Oamaru, Sixth ; Booth, Oamaru, Sixth ; Harrold, Dunedin, Seventh; Morris, Auckland, Seventh; Rosewame, Auckland, Seventh ; Short, Dunedin, Seventh ; Dennolly, Invercargill, Seventh ; Doig, Oamaru, Seventh ; Miller, Christchurch, Seventh; Smith, Kitchener’s Fighting Scouts, Auckland ; Reid, Dunedin, Fifth ; Driver Conn, Auckland, Fifth. The two last-mentioned are time-expired men, the others having been invalided homo. The Southern men remained on tho Elinga mito over-night, and the majority go on home by that vessel to-day. The returned troopers were welcomed and entortaided by the Mayor at the Council Chambers this morning. The members of tho Sixth stoutly deny any desire on their part to come homo at tho expiration of six months. They state that a mistake arose through tho members of other contingents joining the Sixth wishing to leave at tho end of six months, when their year’s service expired. They state that botii contingents wore in excellent health when they left, and that the men were enjoying their work. All the Southerners left by the Elingamito this afternoon.
