THE MAXGATORO ESTATE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Mangatoro estate, in Hawke’s Bay, will be opened by the Government for selection about the middle of January. SUPREME COURT. At the Supreme Court, a youth named William Draper pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering, and was remanded for the Probation Officer’s report. PATRIOTIC FUNDS. The question of the disposition of money remaining' in hand from the Wellington More Men Fund tjC-175). raised when the Third Contingent went away, was discussed at a meeting of the Committee to-day. It was suggested that i the sum should be handed over to aug- ! ment the Queen’s Statue fund, hut exception was taken to this by several speakers, who contended that the money should bo retained for assisting some of tho men who required help or relations of thoso who died, i n reply to the latter objection, tho Mayor pointed out that the Patriotic Fund provided for such eases. It was finally decided to call a public meeting on Tuesday next, when a resolution in favor of giving the money to the Statue Fund will be submitted.
