LABOR DISPUTES.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night,
Tlie Grocers’ Union have decided to refer tho dispute with the employers direct to the Arbitration Court. The employers elected to have tho dispute between them and the Brickmakers’ Union similarly referred. In the latter case, tho Clerk of Awards only received this morning notice by an employer who made a majority in favor of referring the matter direct to the Court, and consequently he was unable to notify tho Unions’ witnesses that the sitting of the Board called to-day would not take place. Hence about a dozen men will lose a day’s wages. The new Act, in dealing with the matter, makes no provision for notifying the other party when ono of the parties lias decided to refer the matter direct to tho Court, and apparently no regulations have yet been issued directing the Clerk what steps are to be taken in such cases.
