THE FLAG
ic By r elegraph—Press Association,
° Auckland, last night. Some Mon'hs ago the Board of Education was Informed by the Kihikihi School Committee that Mr J. 13. Murray, the headmaster, failed to comply with the wishes of the Committee that he should instruct the children in saluting the flag. After some correspondence the Board informed Mr Murray that ho must either teach the children to salute the flag or resign. The Committee alleged that the headmaster’s unpatriotic conduct had caused much ill-feeling in tlio district. Murray denied that his conduct was un patriotic, and stated that he could not personally salute any Hag as ho would a human being. It was against his conscience. The matter was considered by the Board to-day, when the Chairman moved that Murray bo given three months’ notice of dismissal. The motion was carried by live votes to two.
