The match England v. Now South Wales was resumed to-day, the New South Wales team continuing their second innings. In tho morning there was great heat, hut after lunch the hot wind sprung round to a cool quarter and tho lot of the fieldsmen was rendered more tolerable. Poidevin and Ircdalc began with the same freedom as they displayed yesterday, and mastered the howling completely. Quaifo was put on, making the eighth bowler tried, hut the hatsinen kept going merrily till luncheon, Iredale batting more in his old-timo style and ireedom. Poidevin hit with a clean, hard stroke. The recovery of New South Wales after so had a .start was one of tho finest that has occurred on tho ground. Immediately after lunch McGahcy, at short log, snapped Iredale off Jones. The former scored a couple, stepped out to Clarke, and spooned softly to Gregory at a silly point. Hayward joined the captain, and steady play brought the score to 82, when Maclaren narrowly escaped being run out, owing to a smart return by Truiuper. The century appeared in an hour and forty minutes, both batsmen hitting splendidly. Hayward had scored just over half a century when Clarke got him with a beauty. , Very slow play followod Quaifcs appearance. He was at the wickets twentytwo minutes before obtaining a single run. Clarke had the batsmen tied up. Quaifc tipped one from Iloweli into Kelly’s hands at the wickets. Maclaren, who played Clarke very gingerly, smote one back, which the bowler accepted.
