WATER SUPPLY.
“ Thk high-pressure water supply saved the town." Thus runs the message from Dannevirke in regard to the disastrous firo which destroyed much property in that town. It would be wise if this text were laid to heart by the people of Gisborne, and a determined effort made to place the town in possessiou qf a water supply. It is clear that it is only by constant agitation that we can hope for anything being done. The probability is that if a poll were taken to-morrow, many who are believers in the necessity of such a supply would not take the trouble to vote unless the subject were kept' prominently in the foreground immediately prior to the poll. The opponents are ever active, and it would be a tolerable certainty that their full force would be shown. The danger of any increase of rates is to many people a quite sufficient rallying cry, while the supporters are very often lukewarm. Such an experience as that of Dannevirke is worthy or ciose attention.
