UNIMPROVED VALUES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. A poll of ratepayers was taken to-day on the proposal to apply the v ting on unimproved values to city prop nes. There were 0700 voters on thi oil, 2852 of whom voted —12(51 for i proposal, and 591 against. The systr: . will come into operation next March. BROACHING CARGO. By the San Francisco mail tho secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce received a letter from tho London Chamber of Commerce stating that active investigations were being made regarding the pilfering of cargoes at the London docks. The Home Chamber is anxious to receive from merchants of New Zealand particulars of any robberies of goods, and printed forms are being sent out upon which information descriptive of stolen goods may be sent back to London for the assistance of the detective force there. THANKS. The Secretary of State for the Colonies has cabled to Lord Ranfurly, expressing His Majesty tho King’s thanks for the birthday greetings from New Zealand.
