The Hod. J. Carroll arrived in Gisborne by the Moura this morning. Mr T. Steele, the popular proprietor of the Albion Club Hotel, returned from the South this morning by the Moura. Mr and Mrs James Poynter returned to Gisborne this morning. Mr James Macfarlane was a passenger from the South by the Moura. Mr George Adair and Mr, Mrs, and Miss DeCosta were passengers for Gisborne by the R.M.S. Omrah, which arrived at Sydney from London on Monday. i Cr R. H. Mason, who was returned unopposed in the place of Cr Morrison, took his seat at the Borough Council last evening, and was welcomed by the Mayor and Councillors. Mrs C. P. Davies is arranging to hold her annual sale in aid of the Maori and Melanesian Missions on Tuesday, December 17th, and notifies that contributions towards the- sale will be thankfully received. At the meeting of the Borough Council last night leave of absence was granted to Crs. Kennedy and Harding, who are absent from the district. The name of Cr Whinra.v was included with the other names, owing to the state of his health, out just as the leave was granted Councillors were pleased to see Cr Whinray walk into the Council Chamber. He was told that he had just been granted leave of absence, and said, 11 I think a uav.e be absent quite sufficient lately.’ “We are all pleased to see you back again,” was the rejoinder from a Councillor.
