Mr Toysan* an his two sons then rilled in the block, and -he ceremony concluded. One of the oldest storekeepers, Mr \V. Moloney, lias retired from business, and ; has disposed of his stock to Mr JA Sargisson, who took over charge on November 2nd. We hope for Mr Sargissou increased trade and a brilliant future. The following members of the Hurumua Mounted Hides were picked to represent ihcir company at the Coleman Shield to lie fired for on the King's Birthday: Sergeant-Major Hewitt, Sergeants Bird and Cullen, Corporals Smith and Beekeit, Furrier Couper, Bugler Fraser, Troopers Id. Brown, W. Gardner, Hutchison, MeK.uiu, Sergeant Bounds (Napier Guards), and Trooper Deighton. Although the men do not expect to win, on account of the late arrival of ammunition for practice, still we hope to sec them well forward on the list. The dramatic entertainment, which is to take place on the 20th inst., promises to be a huge success. The members are practising assiduously, the rehearsals going off splendidly. Tickets are now out, and the public should arrive early, or otherwise sitting room will not be available. A meeting of the Caledonian Society was held in the County Chambers on November lith. Present: Messrs Wilson (chairman), Neill, ,T. Wilson, Bird, Y\. Brown, T. Hewett, Boggs, A. Parker, P. Cosgrove, T. Bax (secretary), and Dennis EbbitC. Correspondence was read from F. 0. Farmer, enclosing 10s as contribution ; from W. A. Temperley, enclosing 21s. to be added to the prize fund ; from P. Robertson, enclosing 20s as subscription to the Society. The programme for next meeting was read and adopted. Three alterations were made to the programme, namely, potato race, three-legged race, and long jump, instead of wheelbarrow race, married women’s race, and costume race. The last-named events were poorly patronised last year. The balance-sheet for the season's dancing was read : Receipts, £4 17s; expenditure, about £3 10s; balance, X'l 7s. The balance was handed , to the musicians. An account from Mr Ma yu, for rolling and harrowing the ground, 255, was passed for payment. It was decided to send out tickets to all the i members, and at the same time notify . them that the subscriptions are to be handed in to the secretary before the sports gathering. , It was decided to hold the annual conj cert on the same evening that the sports i were held. The following were appointed - a committee to make arrangement for the concert: Messrs Boggs, A. Parker, J Wilson and Hewitt. A committee meeting of the Wairo; Racing Club was held on November (3th Present; Messrs T. Carroll (Chairman) Hague, Sutmneriicld, Britnell, Hewitt and Cosgrove. The following tender: ‘ were received for totalisator at the meet mg : From Messrs Cohen and Nicholson D. Barry, and U. Abrahams. The tendei of Cohen and Nicholson was accepted The following tenders were received foi alteration to the grandstand : Messrs A 1 R. Gardiner, A2!7 Os; <7. Haisinan, Aik 30s ; .1.11. Milne, JE2O; J. tr. Arundel A'l!s 30s. Mr Hewitt proposed that tin tender of J. IT. Milne be accepted. Seeon cied bv Mr Hague and carried. Tin Course Committee decided to chip tin rushes on the course at once. Mr Ilagui proposed that tenders be called for paint ing the grandstand and other buildings, a: recommended by the Course Committee tenders to be in the hands of the secretary by December 4th, and work to be com pitted in a month. Seconded by Mi Britnell and carried. The Hurumua Mounted Rillcs held t company parade on November oth, when there was a good muster. Guard mount ing and manual exorcises were gout through, the men acquitting themselves very creditably.
