The Jubilee Conference of the Baptist Union opened hero this morning. The attendance of delegates promises to exceed all previous records. The President (Rev. A. H. Collins) congratulated the Nelson Church and the whole denominaj tion on the attainment of the jubilee. The Rev. J. G. Greenhough, M.A., was associated with the Assembly. The Revs. Wainwright, Sneyd, Shirer, and Bennett were welcomed to ministerial membership. Greetings were received from the Baptist Unions of Great Britain, AVestern Australia, Victoria, and other colonies. A message was also received from the missionaries in India. The Secretary (Rev. J. Woolley) read the annual report, which showed a gross increase of membership of 354 for tho year, with a net inercaso of 108. Considerable home mission work was recorded, especially in tho North. Congratulatory reference was made to the recent union of the Presbyterian Churches. The report was unanimously adopted. A local preacher’s scheme was reported as fairly established. The report was unanimously adopted. A deputation representing tho Sister Church, consisting of tho Rev. J. S. Smalley and AV. T. Clapham was received. The delegates conveyed warm congratulation on the Jubilee. The balance-sheet showed a deficit of £lO4. Tho report of tho Young People Committee was presented, and after a lengthy and profitable debate, was unanimously adopted. The Rev. J. G. Greenhough lectured on “ Our Puritan and Protestant Forefathers,” tonight, at the School of Music, before a large and enthusiastic audience.
