MUNICIPAL MUSIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. It was announced at the City Council this evening that a scheme of municipal music inaugurated here recently had been highly successful, and had come to stay. Councillors decided to do what they could to help to further popularise the scheme, and make the rotunda where concerts are given more attractive. THE TRAMWAYS. The tramways conference will meet again to-morrow evening to decide whether control should be in the hands of a paid trust or a board elected by the local bodies interested. The City Council has instructed its delegates to maintain the position that it is the proper body to control the trams, but other local bodies interested are strongly opposed to this idea. ABATTOIRS. The question of erecting abattoirs for tne city and surrounding boroughs is now pretty w-ell settled, the City Council being the controlling authority. Terms with other local bodies have yet to bo fixed. If an amicable arrangement is not come to in this direction, the terms will be fixed by the Minister.
