PROGRESSIVE NAPIER.
ELECTRIC LIGHT AND SEA BATHING.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Napier, last night
At a meeting of the Napier Borough Council last evening it was decided to accept the terms offered by Meason and Merchant, engineers, for reporting upon the cost and practicability of lighting Napier by electricity. It was also resolved, as an experiment in connection with sea loathing within certain limits, to appoint custodians to superintend children bathing, and as male and female attendants to the charge of marquees for dressing in. This is only a preliminary step towards making Napier attractive as a sea-bathing and health resort, as the Council has now under consideration a scheme for tho erection cf large open-air sea-water baths, to be available in all weathers.
