WHATAUPOKO ROAD BOARD.

Tuk monthly’ meeting of the Whataupoko Road Board was held yestorday. Present :—Messrs A. F. Matthews (chairman), \V. Sicvwright, D. M. Orr, W. D. Lysnar, and Captain Ferris. Mr Stanley Hooper, doputy-pound-keeper, wrote drawing attention to the necessity of having a fence erected round the pound section.

It was resolved to leave tho matter to tho Chairman and Mr Orr to have the work done.

It was decided to accept an offer of £1 made by Mr J. W. Wade, towards the cost of filling in tho approach to a largo culvert leading to Matakitaki road, tho work to bo done to the Chairman’s satisfaction.

Mr John Warren wrote complaining of tlto conduct of a carrier in dragging several loads of box-thorns along Stout street. -He considered it a danger to cyclists, and that it was an offence under •section 134 of tho Public Works Act, 1894. The Chairman said that it was indeed a very’ dangerous practice. He said that persons were also in the habit of putting in culverts which were in some cases insufficient to carry off the water, and resulted in much damage to tho roads. Thero wore many’ other offences against the law causing nuisance and injury to the roads.- —It was decided to advertise a notice to tho public warning them against such offences.

The Ranger reported that 7 horses and cattle and 77 sheep had been impounded during tho month. Mr Sicvwright urged upon the Board the necessity of hereafter holding its meetings at 8 p.m. instead of in tho evening, and tabled a notice of motion to that effect.

The Chairman and Mr Lysnar wore appointed a committee to wait upon the County Council, with a committee of the Pouawa Board in reference to the Riverside road. The following tenders were received : Formation Sheen and Whitaker streets: Jas. Brown, T 43 8s ; S. Dolemau and Co., j£4B 9s (accepted). The Chairman’s estimate was j£sl. For metal : G. Herival, Kaiti metal 5s 9d, and Whataupoko 5s ; H. Partington and Co., Kaiti ss, and Whataupoko is Bd. The latter’s tender for Kaiti metal was accepted. Accounts amounting to .Cl 6 5s 6d wore presented and passed for payment.
