II ates ho was steering a course which K .bought would take him a niiio and half .tsiffo of danger of the reef. He found mist, if in broken water and luffed up. when the vessel crashed on the rocks, where she hung for half an hour. The boats were got out and the men s effects ami gear put in. Suddenly the vessel slipped oil the rock, and as she was making water rapidly, Captain Monte decided to beach her, and selected a spot of good beach on t lie north side of Shag Point railway station. The crew, in the boats, got ashore safely. The vessel is safe enough unless easterly weather sets in. The Koputai went to within three ooat lengths of her to-day, but as there was no one aboard she had to steam back to port again. The crew are at present staying at Loss’ farm, Kartigi. It has been arranged to hold a survey to-day of the vessel. Captain Thompson, Lloyds' surveyor, and Captain Evans, of the Taranaki, are proceeding to the vessel, lucre is no insurance on the barque.
