TRADE RETURNS.

Wellington, last night. The Customs revenue for the quarter ended September oOth amounted to .1021,595, as against £577,737 for the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. Of this amount £130,119 was derived from spirits, £74,102 from manufactured tobacco, £38,100 .front sugar, molasses, etc., and £263,501 from unenumerated duties. Tiie amount of duty collected at the chief ports was as follows .-—Auckland £14,8,020, Napier £1.8,887, Wellington £148.959, Wanganui £15,048, Nelson £12.710, Lyttelton £92,580, Dunedin 0121,249. Invercargill £20,060. The excise duties for the quarter amounted to £20,779, as against .090,910 for the corresponding quarter of last year. Of this amount £10,322 was derived from beer. The value of imports at the several ports for the quarter was £3,311.936, as against £2,931,979 for the corresponding quarter of 1900. The imports from the United Kingdom increased us between the two periods Loin L 1,815,456 to 1.2,106,905. Other large items in the imports are - New South Wales L 272.240, United States Ld 12,7-87. Victoria L 105.086, Domed L89,G21.
The value of imports entered at the chief ports was as follows .-—Auckland. L 781.491 : Wellington, L 858.672 fas again , t L 701,119 for the corresponding quarter of 1900): Lyttelton, L 592.354 (as against L 458,435); Dunedin, L 619,794. The exports for the quarter amounted to L 2,402,620. as against L 2,315,369. Of this amount, L 1,475,621 was the value of exports to the Lnited Kingdom, as against L 1,605,175 for the same quarter of 1900. Other large amounts were: Victoria L 245,617, New South Wales L 233.469 Natal L 210.752, United States L 104.138. ’ The amounts cleared for export at the chief ports were as follows : Auckland £453,850, Wellington £213,632 ( as against £300,012 for the corresponding nuartcr of 1900 1, Lyttelton £530,332 (as against £439,853), Timaru £238,150 las against £181,935), Dunedin £358,927. Invercargill £267,645 (as against £138,138). The principal items of export were as follows ; Minerals £478,449, fisheries products £6872, timber, gum, etc., £214,019, animals and produce £1,094,068, agricultural products £473,293, manufactures £IQ4]S7Ii
