KING'S BIRTHDAY. Those who deckled time the King e Birthday should in Gisborne bo cclobroted a couple of days after the time doubtless acted with, the best of intentions, but they will act in an ill-advised manner if tlioy attempt to put the resolution into effect. borne have been readv to charge the committee with disloyalty ; that is abstirl, and such, a charge would not bo taken seriously by anyone who gave tho matter a moment’s thought. Indued no one j would surely argue that it mattered I a straw whether tho event was celebrated a day or two after tho event. ! But tho fact that the Sovereign’s j Birthday has been made a special statutory holiday overrides any actioa ! that may lie taken by business men. | There is really no choico in tho manor, and if a holiday is made ol' the Monday it will practically moan that there will bo two holidays. la any case it would be absurd for tho shops to close on the Monday when, in addition to tho offices, all places of employment coming under the f actories Act, must observe the Saturday as tho holiday.
