j [By Telegraph—Press Association.] ' Wellington, last night. ’ Mr Slater's term as representative of i the labor bodies on tho Arbitration Court will shortly expire. The Wellington Trades Court has decided to endorse the candidature of Mr A. H. Cooper, President of the Bootmakers’ Union and secretary to the Council, for the vacancy. A new form of money-order telegram is about to be issued, having both order and advice on the same slip, the advice portion to be torn off at the perforated line ; also a new system of dealing with instructions to clubs for totalisator investments. under which all such instructions for big meetings will be received in city offices and handed over to officials ap"poirited by the racing clubs, who will twenty minutes before each race tabulate the number of investments for each horse, which will then be telegraphed to the course and rung on the machine. The system will first come into operation in connection with tho New Zealand Cup j Meeting.
In addition to the resolutions of the Timber Conference already telegraphed, it was decided “ that the differences which exist in the matter of the Commonwealth and New Zealand tariffs should he made the subject of friendly negotiations between the Governments with as little delay as possible.
