POLLARD OPERA COMPANY.

“ THE CASINO GIRL.”

Tukkk was an overflowing house at the Theatre Royal last evening, when 11 The Casino Girl ” was staged for the first time in Gisborne. The music of tho opera is bright and sparkling, and there are a host of pretty dances, which are most artistically performed. For some people there is too much dancing in tho piece, but perhaps lovers of the lerpsichorion art are not likely to complain on this account. Tho opera was beautifully staged, and the audience expressed their delight by frequent and hearty applause. Mr William Percy gave a thoroughly artistic interpretation of the leading character, that of Pilsencr Pasha, a brewer, and succeeded in keeping the audience in continual roars of laughter. Mr Charles Carter, who had one of the leading parts, sang and acted with great success, whilst Messrs Stephens, O’Connor and Quealy made the most of their pal is. The ladies appearing in the chief characters last evening were Misses Gertie Campion, Wilmot Karkcck, Zoe KarkrrP, cud Nina Osborne, and ibuj were an at then- best. There was a strong orchestra, and the piece went with a good swing through ut. To-night “ U■; i’oupee ” will be staged, and promises to draw a crowded house. This opera is highly spoken of throughout the Australian colonies, and has been very popular wherever played.
