The Primate, in the course of his address, said the Duke of Cornwall by his visit to the various parts of the Empire and his observation of the various races, religion, and customs of its people, will have seen how incompatible with the independence of the Empire it would be for our King to be subject to any external human authority, “ May it be long,” said the Primate, “ before another King of England is called upon to take the Accession Oath, and when he does take it may the solemn declaration be so worded as not unnecessarily to offend any man or woman who is truly loyal to the British Crown.” FRANK UTTERANCES BY BISHOP JULIUS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. The session of the Anglican Diocesan Synod was opened to-day by Bishop | Julius. In his address in the evening he said the three causes of weakness in the Church in the colonies was : First, want of men ; 2nd, want of teaching ; 3rd, hindrances to worship. He did not hesitate to say the Church was not teaching her people, and if it was to do good it must teach as well as preach, as many of their people were ignorant.
