In connection with the remarks of the Queensland Premier on the 'Frisco mail service, a statement has been published here that in the evcnQof Now Zealand deciding to subsidise the. Canadi m line, Queensland would be offered the Oceanic service. It is probable that the Federal Government would agree to the substitution, if Queensland recommend it. As an inducement for the change, it is pointed out that the American-English mails arc delivered about three days quicker via Brisbane, than via Now Zealand. DISCUSSION IN PARLIAMENT. CONTRACT RENEWED FOR ONE YEAR.

Wellington, last night. The House resumed at 7.30, and after a lengthy debate went into Committee to consider the mail proposals. A motion to strike out the paragraph authorising the Government to enter into a contract with Sprecklcs for the renewal of the ’Frisco service was lost bv 35 to ‘25.
Mr Millar then moved that the specified term of the contract (three years) be struck out.
This was carried bv 85 to 28.
Mr Millar then moved that the term of contract be for ono year only. This was carried by 33 to3o.
