Dr. Craig returns to Gisborne to-day. _ Mr J. W. Bright, local manager of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company, returned from tho 'South this morning, Mr Erie 0. Gold-Smith, Commissioner of Grown Lands for Hawke’s Bay. arrived from Napier this morning by the Waikare. Mr Hyde, a member of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board, arrived from Napier this morning. Messrs Hutchinson and Tiileri returned from the South this morning. Air T. Byrne was a passenger from the youth by the Waikare.
Pollard Opera Company, numbering between sixty and seventy, arrived In Gisborne this morning, Mr Fcrdhaui, travelling representive for Messrs Turnbull and Co., Wellington, is at present visiting Gisborne. Mr Pettigrew, a popular commercial traveller, and a well-known bowler, arrived by the Waikare this morning. _ Mr M. G. Nasmith has returned from Napier. Mr and Mrs Arnold Wethered left Wellington yesterday for London by the steamer Tomoana. Miss Largo, of Napier, will sing a solo rVom “ Oratorio ” at Holy Trinity Church
to-morrow evening. Dc Craig, surgeon to the East Coast Mounted Hides, is to deliver to the corps ■six lectures on ambulance work, and the course is being looked forward to with interest by members. The following is the cast of characters in “ Florodora.” the opera which the Pollard Company open their Gisborne season with. The principal characters are to be sustained by Miss May Beatty as Dolores, Miss Maud Beatty, Lady Holyrood; Miss ■Mice Pollard, Angela; Mr W. Percy, Twcedicpunch ; Mr 11. Quealy. Gilfain; Mr D. O'Connor, Abercold ; Mr C. Carter, Captain Donegal; and Mr .J, O'Sullivan, Leandro.
The following is the list of visitors at the Hot Springs Hotel, Morere, last week : Mr Breigan (Gisborne), Mr Mills (Nuhaka) Mr Green (Masterton), Mr Fletcher (2) (Nunr.ka), Mr Taylor (Gisborne), Mr Greater {Mahia). Mr Weber (Napier), Mr Mr Middleton (Mahia), Mr Cram (Wairoa), Mr Ogden (Mahia), Mr Appleton (Mahia), Mr White (Dannevirke), Mr Collins (Napier), Mr F. Wilson (Napier). The Rev. Mr Welsh, of Woodvillc, is to take up Canon Webb’s duties until his successor is appointed.
Mr Lincoln Rees, solicitor, appeared in court yesterday for the lirst time since meeting with an accident up the cqass. The Magistrate expressed his pleasure at seeing Mr Rees about again, and hoped that he would soon be able to dispense with his crutches.
Mr Oscar Fisher, the assistant organiser of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, arrived from the South this morning. A meeting of farmers will be held at the Masonic Hotel at 11 o’clock to-day for the purpose of meeting and hearing him explain the objects of the Union.
A Press Association telegram received last evening from Ashburton states that Mrs C. E. Tooks, one of the earliest; irrivals in Ashburton, died tnat evening. She had been ailing some time.
