A graceful compliment was paid by the Wellington Xavals on Saturday to Sergt. Ilardham, who was recently awarded the Victoria Cross. At the conclusion of the parade at the forts the corps was formed up and addressed by the lieutenant in command, G. Hell, who referred to the high esteem in which Sergt. Ilardham was held bv his comrades when he was formerly a member of the Wellington Xavals, and made special reference to Sergt. ! fanlliain's manly good qualities, which had resulted in ids winning the highest arkiiowledgmeut for bravery that could be bestowed on a soldier. This was the first occasion of a New Zealand volunteer winning the Victoria Gross. While aresolution of congratulations was being put the men stood at salute, and they finished up with three hearty cheers for a recipient of the nation’s honour,
