WELLINGTON SPECIAL.
GENERAL HECTOR MACDONALD. (Special to Times.) Wellington, last- night. Major-General Sir Hector Macdonald, who is coining across to New Ze. and about the end of the present month, has cabled his acceptance of an invitation to attend the banquet given in his honor by the Wellington Gaelic Society. A NEW ZEALAND JOURNALIST. It is believed that John D. Pope, journalist, o*' Auckland, mentioned ahaving been killed by a van in London, refers to John D. Pope at- one-time on tho literary staff of the Wellington Catholic Times and Evening Press. During tho northern mining boom ho was connected with a newspaper at Coromandel, and also wrote for the Auckland papers. Ho left for England about a year ago. During his residence in Wellington he identified himself with the Homo Rule movement, and delivered several lectures on Irish patriotic subjects.
