Tho Star of Gisborne Lodge, No. 61, of the 1.0.0. F., held their usual meeting last evening at the Masonic Hall, Bro. Colebourne, N.G., presiding. Three new members were elected, three proposed, and one initiated. A large amount of business was transacted, and the Lolgc will hold a degree meeting on Tuesday evening next to confer degrees mi those wishing to obtain the same. A committee was set up to arrange a harmony club to take charge of the social side of the Lodgo proceedings.
| The first quarterly summoned meeting of the Star of New Zealand Tent, 1.0. R., was held in the Tent-room last evening, Sister Georgeson, C.R., presiding. The balance-sheet of the past quarter was presented and adopted. Tt stood as follows : Funeral fund, receipts tis, expenditure i)s ; sick fund, receipts 15s lid, expenditure nil; contingent fund, receipts 4:9 8s 6d, expenditure 4,'S Gs Id. Nineteen members were initiated during the quarter. Sister O'Connor was elected as Deputy-Ruler, Sister Hickey as cash steward, and Sister Gray, Right Supporter of the Chief Ruler. Rules for the Tent were revised and adopted. A large amount of routine business was transacted. The usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Andrew’s schoolroom yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendenee. The meeting received with great regret Mrs Webb’s resignation of the offices of president and actingmanageress of the Coffee Rooms. Mrs A, Graham was elected to the former office and Miss E. Morico to the latter; these appointments to hold good till the annual business meeting in December. A very interesting paper by Mrs Roth well, on “How to organi-e personal effort and win the iiuiihtrcnl," was read, and a vote nl thank vor.b.d to her. j There was a large attendance at the j Druids’ social hril in the Academy of | Music Inst cvenim;. upwards of so couples j being present. Splendid music was supplied by Mrs Fernandez, and a good supper was provided bv Ml- James Craig. The floor, which was specially prepared by Mr G. 11, Henderson, was in first-class order. Bros. Spiers and 11. D. Bean acted as M.C's, and carried out thenduties in an ellicient manne.i. Dancing was continued with vigor until shortly after midnight, when all wended their way homeward after having spent a most enjoyable evening. As these gatherings have become so popular with the public, it is the intention of the Druids to continue them next winter, when many more pleasant evenings should bo spent, The following committee carried out the arrangements for the social; —Bros.
