The altogether inadequate remuneration of our judges is another instance of the j false economy of a Government which can be lavish enough where the salaries of Ministers and members of Parliament are concerned. The axiom that the laborer is worthy of his hire applies just as much to the public service as to any other branch of industry, and unless the Government are prepared to pay their experts better Xew Zealand is not likely to get the best men available, or to retain those who can j command higher salaries elsewhere.—- | Christchurch Press.
