Mr Lincoln Rees, who met with an accident up the coast, has returned to Gisborne. Wo are pleasod to state that he is making good progress towards recovery, and should bo about in a fc\T days. Mr Ilcury Martin has arranged to take over the local totalisator business from Messrs Barry and Hogan, by whom it has been worked so successfully for some 18 years past. At the cricket meeting last evening Mr J. W. Nolan was elected President of the Association, and Mr J. V. Macdonald secretary. Mr W. Miller was appointed treasurer.
.Messrs G. T. Bull and Paore Keiha, who attended the championship golf tournament as representatives of tho local club, returned home by the Moura. In conversation with a Times representative yesterday Mr Bull stated the visitors were exceptionally well treated in the northern city, where golfing has a strong hold. The new links at Cornwall Park are extremely pretty, and a large crowd of spectators daily watched the play. The President of the Bowling Club, Mr William Pottle, and the Hon. Secretary, Mr C. 11. Dixon, are making arrangements for the opening of the season on Thursday afternoon, and the gathering promises to bo a most successful one. A match President v. vico-Presidcnt will be played. Mrs P. Herbert, of Stout street, Whataupoko, has received tho sad intelligence that her husband had been killed at Wimbledon, Hawke’s Bay, where he had boon working in the bush, by a tree falling on him. The deceased leaves a widow and nine children, with whom much sympathy will be expressed in their sad affliction. Mr Herbert was an old resident of this district, having lived here for 17 years, Seven months ago ho went to Wimbledon.
