A GISBORNE CONTRACT. (Special to Times.) Auckland, last night. i With regard to the additions to Mr DcLautour's buildings, for which fresh tenders were called, i understand that a well-known Auckland contractor, -J. J. Holland, cx-M.H.K., was the lowest tenderer, and has been accepted. Mr Holland, who was for some years Mayor of Auckland, has built some of the largest buildings in this city, and has an excellent reputation as a builder. COMIC OPERA. For the last four months the members of the Auckland Amateur Opera Club have been actively rehearsing, under the able training of Alt- Archdale Taylor, Gilbert and Sullivan's popular comic opera “ lolanthe,” and the opening date of their performances is fixed for Monde v, October 21, Quite a galaxy of new talent is to be introduced, a number of the leading roles being entrusted to vocalists whe arc making their first how to the Auckland public in opera houile.
