Poverty Bay Bowing Club.

ANNUAL REPORT,

At the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club to be held this evening, the following report will bo presented “ Your Committee, in submitting the seventeenth annual report, are pleased to congratulate tho members on the progress of tho club. The activo membership being larger than any season for tho past nine years ; and notwithstanding the large expentiture during tho past season, tho club’s financial position must be considered highly satisfactory.

Annual fixtures.—ln our fixtures with

the Union Club of Napier, and the Gisborne Bowing Club, wo were not so successful as your Committee would wish, but we liope to do bettor this coining season. In the sculling, however, we have every reason to congratulate our reps., as wc have now won Bridson’s cup for the championship of Poverty Bay. Mr Bees Jones winning the cup outright, and our other rep. rowing in the final for second place. In the club races for the fours, some exciting finishes resulted, and in the first trials, the following crew were the winners : C. Taylor (stroke), A. Bawson (8), E. File (2), C. Boyle (bow). And this crew won Mr C. P. Browne’s photos : J. Webb (stroke), 11. Moore (3), C. Keane (2), B. Boyle (bow), D. Boderick (cox). With the advent of the new convertablo doublo scullers there was a great deal of enthusiasm shown for that class of racing, and two handsome medals were donated for the first race in these boats, which were won rather easily by B. Kellet, and A. Bussell. And the second race, “ handicap,” for two handsome gold medals, presented by Mr F. Oatridge, were also won by the same pair. During the season we met the Gisborne Club in a scratch event over half a mile course, between crews representing the married men of the two clubs, and w 7 o were defeated rather easily, and your Committee anticipate another good season this year. After the sculling the members were of the opinion that some recognition should bo made of Messrs Bees Jones’ and Kirk’s services, in upholding the prestige of the club, and they were presented with a large-sized photo of themselves in rowing costume. The following gentlemen represented your club in its fixtures: Senior Beps. v. Gisborne : C. Taylor stroke, 11. Taylor 3, D. West 2, K- McLeod bow. Juniors : J. Pool 3, B. Moore 2, F. Fox bow, A. Kirk. Ten stone : J. Martin stroke, A. Pool 3, J. Smith 2, J. Parker bow. In the fixture against Union, Napier junior and ten-stone crews,, wc were represented by the ten-stone crew in both events. Plant : With the addition of the two new boats last season our fleet of boats are well up to the requirements of the Club, and should not require much expenditure during the coming season. Social : During the year the Club held its aunual picnic and dance in the evening, and it was a successful gathering. The Club took the visiting oarsmen out to Ormond for a drive, and also held the annual social during their visit, and this gathering was also an unqualified success. Thanks : The Club has to thank those gentlemen who contributed to the prize-list, namely, Messrs C. P. Browne, F, J. Qatridge, W. Good, and H. B. Smith. We have also to thank the ladies who assisted us at our picnic and social.
